Who is a good candidate for treatments like BOTOX?

There are very few restrictions regarding injectable botulinum toxin. Patients who are pregnant or who have certain neurological conditions should not be treated. If you are healthy and have no underlying health problems, you may be a good candidate.

What are neurotoxins like BOTOX commonly used to treat?

BOTOX is used to soften dynamic wrinkles caused by repeated contractions of facial muscles, which commonly include:

  • Frown lines between the brows (11s)
  • Horizontal lines on the forehead
  • Crow’s feet (smile lines) around the eyes
  • Bunny lines (diagonal creases on the nose)
  • Vertical lip lines around the mouth
  • Bands on the neck

Keep in mind that this type of injectable doesn’t reduce wrinkles caused by sun damage and skin laxity because these types of wrinkles are not caused by muscle contractions. Injectables cannot significantly reduce sagging skin or replace a brow liftfacelift, and other types of surgical interventions. Although botulinum toxin injectables can create impressive results, it’s important to understand their limitations. Having reasonable expectations helps to make you a good candidate. Dr. Kenkel will help you learn more during your consultation.

BOTOX vs. Dermal Fillers

BOTOX and dermal fillers are injectables that provide temporary, natural-looking facial rejuvenation. These products work in different ways and provide benefits that are often complementary.

BOTOX Benefits

  • Smoothing away dynamic wrinkles such as crow’s feet, frown lines, and chin dimples
  • Lifting sagging brows (nonsurgical brow lift)
  • Correcting a gummy smile
  • Slimming the jawline
  • Enhancing the upper lip (BOTOX lip flip)

Dermal Filler Benefits

  • Smoothing static wrinkles (not caused by muscle contractions) such as nasolabial folds and marionette lines around the mouth
  • Restoring volume to the cheeks, temples, tear troughs, and under-eye hollows
  • Enhancing facial features in procedures such as nose reshaping (a nonsurgical nose job), chin augmentation, and jawline contouring
  • Volumizing and shaping the lips (lip augmentation)

Many people benefit from a combination of BOTOX and fillers for a subtle nonsurgical facelift.

BOTOX vs. Dysport

BOTOX and Dysport are both injectable neuromodulators that work similarly to temporarily block muscle movement and smooth wrinkled skin. However, Dysport may work more quickly than BOTOX, with results visible as soon as 48 hours after treatment.

Which lasts longer?

Every patient varies. However, BOTOX typically lasts 3 to 4 months, while Dysport lasts slightly longer with a duration of 4 to 6 months.

Which looks more natural?

Our experienced injectors always ensure your BOTOX and Dysport results look natural. After either treatment, you appear rested and refreshed instead of looking like you’ve had a cosmetic procedure.

Which kicks in faster?

Dysport typically works a little more quickly than BOTOX, showing results a day or two sooner.

Which is more expensive?

Dysport generally costs less per unit than BOTOX. However, more units of Dysport are usually required to achieve your desired results.

How much does BOTOX cost in Dallas & Frisco?

The cost of individual treatments can vary based on the number of areas treated and the amount of product used. We require payment for BOTOX or Dysport treatments on the day of your appointment. We accept cash, checks, money orders, and credit cards. Please call us at (214) 645-3112 to learn more about our fee schedule for these popular products.

How is a BOTOX treatment performed?

Using a very tiny needle, Dr. Kenkel injects a small amount of BOTOX or another neuromodulator product into several pre-determined areas of your face. Because the needle is quite fine and only a small amount of the product is used, most patients find the procedure quite comfortable. There is usually an initial, minor sting with each injection but little, if any, lingering discomfort. There is no sedation or anesthetic required, so you can resume your normal activities immediately after your appointment.

How long after BOTOX can you see results?

The effects of BOTOX Cosmetic and other similar products take approximately 2 to 7 days to emerge, and they can last anywhere from 3 to 4 months.

BOTOX FAQ

Q: Is it painful to get BOTOX?

A: BOTOX injections are quick and feel like a quick pinch or bug bite. If patients are concerned about discomfort, Dr. Kenkel applies a topical anesthetic to the skin. Once it takes effect, he cleanses the skin and then applies ice to numb the area more. The ice also reduces the risk of bruising by constricting the blood vessels.

Q: What’s the difference between BOTOX and Dysport?

A: Both products are neuromodulators made from purified botulinum toxin. Dysport is more diluted and contains less protein than BOTOX. It spreads farther from the injection site, making it useful for larger areas like the forehead. Dysport results typically develop more quickly than with BOTOX.

Q: Is BOTOX better than dermal fillers?

A: While both BOTOX and dermal fillers are injectables, they have different uses and work in different ways. BOTOX is best for addressing concerns related to muscle contractions such as concentrating and squinting. Dermal fillers add volume under the surface of the skin, making them best for smoothing out smile lines around the mouth, restoring cheek volume, and plumping the lips. Dr. Kenkel often uses both treatments to rejuvenate the entire face.

Q: Can BOTOX slim the jawline?

A: Yes. When injected into the masseter muscles at the back of the jaw, BOTOX can provide jawline slimming and change the lower facial contour from square to more of an oval.
