BOTOX® Cosmetic & Dysport®
BOTOX Cosmetic or Dysport injections from Dallas plastic surgeon Dr. Jeffrey Kenkel can temporarily smooth away some of your most frustrating wrinkles. These FDA-approved products use a purified form of an active ingredient called botulinum toxin type A to temporarily reduce the muscle movement that causes some wrinkles on the upper face and around the mouth. BOTOX Cosmetic and Dysport are popular, easy options for men and women to look refreshed, revitalized, and younger without downtime.
Am I a good candidate for these treatments?
There are very few restrictions regarding injectable botulinum toxin. Patients who are pregnant or who have certain neurological conditions should not be treated. If you are healthy and have no underlying health problems, you should be a good candidate. Dr. Kenkel will help you learn more during your consultation.
Keep in mind that this type of injectable doesn't reduce wrinkles caused by sun damage and skin laxity. This is because these types of wrinkles are not caused by muscle contractions. Injectables cannot significantly reduce sagging skin or replace brow lift, facelift, and other types of surgical interventions. Although botulinum toxin injectables can create impressive results, it's important to understand their limitations. Having reasonable expectations helps to make you a good candidate.
How is the treatment performed?
Using a very tiny needle, Dr. Kenkel injects a small amount of product into several pre-determined areas of your face. The most typical treatment areas are frown lines between the brows, horizontal lines on the forehead, and smile lines around the eyes. Because the needle is quite fine and only a small amount of the product is used, most patients find the procedure quite comfortable. There is usually an initial, minor sting with each injection but little, if any, lingering discomfort. There is no sedation or anesthetic required, so you can resume your normal activities immediately after your appointment.
What should I know about my results?
The effects of BOTOX Cosmetic and other similar products take 2 to 7 days to emerge, and they can last anywhere from 3 to 5 months. After several treatments, however, you may notice your results gradually lasting longer — sometimes up to 6 or 8 months after a treatment.
