KYBELLA® Double Chin Treatment
At our practice in Dallas and Frisco, Texas, Dr. Kenkel offers KYBELLA injections, which reduce a double chin by dissolving stubborn fat in this area. Submental fullness (excess chin fat) can cause the look of a double chin — usually associated with being overweight — even in slender, fit individuals. Unwanted chin fat is a common condition in people of all ages. KYBELLA injections are the only nonsurgical treatment specifically designed for a double chin.
Am I a good candidate for KYBELLA?
KYBELLA is approved by the FDA as a double chin treatment, so it's meant for patients who see this as a problem area and want to remove excess, localized fat.
There is no age or weight requirement, per se, but the treatment is most effective in patients with isolated chin fat and good skin elasticity. If you have loose skin in this area, a skin tightening treatment or a facelift with neck lift may be better options.
What should I expect from my consultation?
Your consultation is all about you. Dr. Kenkel will take the time to listen to your reasons for seeking treatment, as well as answer any questions or concerns you might have. As with all treatments, Dr. Kenkel personally administers KYBELLA injections, so he will also use your time together as an opportunity to examine your neck and develop a treatment plan. He then discusses the results you can expect from treatment — and, with a careful eye toward your aesthetic goals, he may recommend adding other treatment options as well.
Once you meet with Dr. Kenkel, we will take photos of your chin to save in your file. You will also talk with Debbie, our coordinator, about pricing and financing. At that point, she can answer any additional questions that may not have come up during the consultation.
What happens during a treatment session?
Over the course of 15 to 30 minutes, Dr. Kenkel prepares your neck for treatment by applying local or topical anesthetic, cleansing the treatment area, marking your skin at the areas that will best aid in reducing fat cells, and performing the injections.
The injections themselves are placed about a centimeter apart, typically in a grid formation across the surface of the treatment area. Each individual injection takes a moment, and Dr. Kenkel can often have you on your way in around a half an hour.
Once your treatment session is complete, a naturally occurring chemical called deoxycholic acid (found in KYBELLA) goes to work by dissolving the fat cells in the target area. This, in turn, signals your body to begin removing those fat cells — ultimately slimming your chin.
What about downtime and side effects?
You will experience some localized swelling and numbness in the areas treated that may last for a few days. Most patients still are able to do their normal daily activities including work.
What should I know about the results?
KYBELLA injections trigger a natural healing response in the body. This means that results appear gradually as the body works to naturally remove the treated fat cells. While there is no surgery and minimal downtime involved in a KYBELLA treatment, this also means that the outcome is less dramatic than a surgical procedure, such as neck liposuction, so it's important to keep your results in perspective.
You should expect to see the full effect of the treatment about a month after your session. At this point, some individuals will schedule another treatment session as optimal results often take a series of treatments. Most patients require 3 or 4 treatment sessions to achieve the desired results. With a healthy diet and stable weight following treatment, the results of KYBELLA can last indefinitely.
How much does KYBELLA cost?
The extent of KYBELLA injections varies from patient to patient. Many patients schedule a series of treatments, for example, with anywhere from 2 to 4 treatments. The cost varies accordingly.
In your consultation, Dr. Kenkel will examine your chin and map out a treatment plan that forms the basis of a written estimate. In this estimate, you'll find the specifics of your treatment, fees associated with the use of topical or local anesthetic, and more. We do also ask that patients who schedule a KYBELLA session reserve their appointments with a $500 deposit.
