I have protruding ears that I always cover up with my long hair since I was a child. I am interested in having them sized down so I can wear my hair short with confidence. What kind of procedure is available and what is the recovery time?

Jeffrey Kenkel, MD

There is a surgical procedure that can be done to help decrease the prominence of your ears. There are many different things that may contribute to this and the operation addresses your specific needs. The incision for this is behind the ear in the crease between your ear and head. Typically it is a 2 – 2.5 hour day surgical procedure. You will be sore for 10-14 days. We do not see a great deal of swelling or bruising with the procedure.
