Dr Kenkel, how much time off will I require following a tummy tuck procedure?
Tummy tucks or abdominoplasties are one of the bigger procedures we do. Many patients tell me that their discomfort is similar to what they experienced with a hysterectomy or c section. That being said, it usually requires some pain medicine during the course of the first week. By the end of the first week, beginning of the second week you will transition to more ibuprofen during the day and still may require some pain medicine at night. Once you are off of pain medicine you can start to drive when you feel up to it. Walking is critical to your recovery and we recommend it daily. Once you are at the three week point we will let you slowly transition to increasing your activity which should be normal by 6-8 weeks.
