Does a Facelift Include The Neck & Eyes? (Updated 2023)

Dr. Kenkel with patient

For people considering a facelift, the question of which areas of the face the surgery will improve is a common one. Along with sagging skin in the lower face, many of my facelift patients also experience laxity or banding in the neck and droopiness in the eyes.

In this post, I’ll answer your most-asked facial plastic surgery questions, including whether a facelift includes the neck and eyes.

Q: Does a facelift tighten the neck?

A: This is an excellent question. At my practice, a facelift typically involves repositioning and lifting the cheeks, jawline, and neck. It corrects concerns such as:

  • Loss of definition along the jawline
  • Sagging cheeks and jowls
  • Double chin or a “turkey neck”
  • Marionette lines, nasolabial folds, and other wrinkles around the mouth

Q. Does a facelift include the eyes?

A. Although a facelift traditionally focuses on laxity and aging in the lower two-thirds of the face, very often we also address aging eyes with eyelid surgery at the same time. This combination of procedures provides more complete rejuvenation of the entire face.

That being said, there are some patients that either simply do not need or want certain areas operated on. For example, I routinely see patients who just would like improvement of their neck via a neck lift without addressing their cheeks or eyes. We talk about the 5 benefits of choosing a neck lift over other tightening procedures in a related blog post.

Q. How do you know which procedure is right for you?

A. When you meet with me for a personal consultation, we discuss expectations and goals. Based on that conversation, we determine the best course of action to help you achieve your best result. This means turning back time, creating a natural-looking improvement and not an “overdone” look.
