PHOTOREJUVENATION

Photorejuvenation is a non-invasive skin health and restoration treatment that erases the damage inflicted to your skin from sun, aging and biological factors. The patented non-laser technology supplies a broad spectrum of light which reaches deep down to all the levels of the skin targeting pigment and vascular imperfections.

Unlike laser resurfacing which may require a downtime of at least two weeks, with Photorejuvenation there is no downtime.

What do the Photorejuvenation treatments accomplish?
Photorejuvenation can correct a variety of benign skin conditions on the face, neck, arms, hands, chest and back. Below is a list of skin conditions that can be treated.

  • Reduces pigmentation from sun-damaged skin
  • Skin imperfections and blemishes
  • Decreases pore size
  • Reduces redness from rosacea and flushing
  • Eliminates unsightly small veins
  • Evens out skin discolorations

Am I a good candidate?
A consultation is necessary prior to scheduling your Photorejuvenation treatment. The consultation allows Dr. Kenkel to determine your skin type, the appropriate laser necessary for your treatment, and if this would be the best treatment for your particular skin condition. You may find, during your consultation, that other treatments available in the clinic may benefit your skin condition better. Some treatments may also require a skin care regimen before beginning your treatment. The only way to determine if this is necessary is by having the initial consultation with Dr. Kenkel.

How are Photorejuvenation treatments performed?
Your Photorejuvenation treatment will be performed in the Outpatient Building on the campus of UT Southwestern Medical Center.

A topical anesthetic cream is used to numb the areas of treatment and is applied 30 minutes to an hour before the procedure. After removing the anesthetic cream, an eye piece is placed over the eyes to protect them from the light. A cold gel is then applied to the area(s) being treated and the smooth surface of the IPL™ hand piece is gently applied to your skin. The pulses of light produce a slight sting and the treatment lasts 15 to 30 minutes depending on the area being treated.

After a series of treatments, you can see a significant reduction of unwanted pigmentation and the appearance of a smoother, revitalized skin. The Photorejuvenation minimizes red and brown spots while evening out skin color and texture.

How many treatments are necessary?
Depending on the number of conditions you want treated and the severity of the skin condition, a series of 5 to 6 treatment sessions are recommended. The procedure is non-invasive and you can return to work the same day and resume all your regular activities. By dividing the full program into several treatments, the procedure provides gradual improvement with very low risk.

After your initial series of treatments, it is possible to require a follow-up treatment in two or more years. Patients with redness from any skin condition may require maintenance treatments 1 to 3 times per year. We will educate you in ways of caring for your skin to help diminish the likelihood of future treatments.

What is the recovery like?
Recovery with the Photorejuvenation is minimal. Your face may be red for a few hours after the procedure but this will subside. Pigmented areas on your skin may actually become darker initially. These spots are the pigment in your skin that is being brought to the surface and will disappear in the next few days.

You will need to avoid the sun as much as possible. In the early weeks and months following the treatment, your skin will be very susceptible to sun damage. If at all possible, avoid prolonged exposure to the sun. If you must be in the sun for a short time, use sunscreen and wear a hat.

What do the Photorejuvenation treatments cost?
Photorejuvenation involves the use of sophisticated expensive equipment in order to deliver precise and effective energy pulses. During your initial consultation the areas to be treated will be determined and a fee quote per treatment session will be given to you. This fee involves the cost of the procedure, topical anesthetic postoperative visits and an invitation for a free skin care consultation with our aesthetician. Please call (214) 645-2353 to schedule an appointment.
